Job Description The Project/Systems Engineering function in Ultra provides expertise to all projects through the bid and full development lifecycle. It ensures that both project and statutory requirements are met and works to improve the effectiveness of the systems design function within the company. It is responsible for the system architecture and integration of the solution. It is responsible for design for cost and design for manufacture. A professional at this grade applies technical / professional knowledge, making independent judgements based on practice and significant previous experience to support decision making. Often seen as a referral point or more senior team member to escalate more complex problems. Roles will act independently with minimal guidance, and may act as project managers/formal mentors for junior staff. Ultra Maritime is searching for a highly motivated and detail oriented System Engineer to support the ongoing development of a new Radar system. Working closely with RF, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers, the System Engineer will guide the continued development of the Radar System from design updates through integration and test events. The System Engineer is expected to provide system level trade-space assessments of approaches working with the Project Engineer to determine the benefit trade-offs. At UEOS, the System Engineer will have the opportunity to guide the development and selection of key technologies for the Navy and will have the opportunity to work with complex software algorithms and cutting-edge digital signal processing hardware. The System Engineer will have the opportunity to contribute to key strategic approaches for future proposals, IR&D, and additional development activities. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic.
  • Application of proper system engineering discipline and rigor required for disciplined system development.
  • Utilize significant experience with Radar systems or similar signal processing systems.
  • Utilize experience and knowledge of algorithms used for navigation, periscope detection, discrimination or other parts of traditional Radar signal processing.
  • Utilize laboratory knowledge including setup and use of Linux-based system integration, test, and execution.
  • Utilize experience planning, reviewing, and executing integration and test events for combined hardware and software systems
  • Specification, update and review of system and subsystem level requirements.
  • Utilize experience working with a team to jointly develop a system during all phases of the development lifecycle.
  • Willingness to travel (25%).
Preferred Experience: (Optional)
  • Knowledge of Navy platforms or common Navy platforms interfaces.
  • Knowledge or understanding of X-band system trade-offs.
  • Experience working with MIL STDs for all types of test requirements (MIL-STD-454, MIL-STD-901, etc.).
  • Matlab, Python or other Modeling / Scripting Languages.
Qualifications:
  • 6+ years with MS or 8+ with BS Degree in Systems/EE Engineering discipline
  • US citizen and ability to obtain appropriate personnel clearance
