Responsibilities The Tabletop/Smallwares Purchasing Manager is responsible for processing and overseeing all purchasing activities related to tabletop/smallwares to ensure the attainment of departmental, distribution center, and company financial objectives. This person plays a critical role in managing the tabletop/smallwares inventory, suppliers and buying team to meet the needs of the distribution sales team and Singer customers. This role demands the highest standards of professional integrity within the assigned department.
  • Manage the team of buyers in assigned category of tabletop and smallwares.
  • Oversee the category management, SKU and vendor rationalization as well as partnership programs for tabletop and smallwares across the enterprise
  • Establish departmental goals and provide direction in line with the Vice President of Procurement's vision.
  • Coordinate departmental activities with other departments such as DC operations, Sales, Customer care, AP, and Finance.
  • Attend relevant meetings to stay informed about programs and issues, providing departmental insights to support initiatives.
  • Monitor service level performance and ensure alignment with goals.
  • Support and implement corporate initiatives on inventory turns, dead stock and aged inventory to ensure distribution equipment is moving efficiently and effectively through the warehouse.
  • Supervise, direct and lead a team of buyers in the category.
  • Monitor departmental performance against projections, identify solutions, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Initiate and oversee personnel actions, including hiring, terminations, layoffs, promotions, and salary increases.
  • Coordinate and evaluate formal training activities and on-the-job training programs.
  • Maintain open channels of communication for upward feedback, encourage the expression of ideas, suggestions, and complaints, and review them for appropriate action.
  • Conduct performance reviews for department staff.
  • Act as a backup to fill any staffing gaps as needed.
  • Manage workload distribution among all buyers
  • Gather information and develop procedures to ensure the best company pricing through volume discounts, buying group deals, company negotiated deals, free freight, etc.
  • Serve as the point of contact for Accounts Payable to address any issues or concerns or questions regarding supplier invoicing.
  • Communicate upcoming price increases to the appropriate individuals.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with vendors and representative groups.
  • Collaborate effectively and professionally with the entire Singer Distribution Sales team.
Ideal Candidate Will Possess the Following Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, with a solid understanding of procurement techniques and methodologies preferred. Foodservice equipment experience is preferred. Management of a team is desired
  • In-depth understanding of the assigned product.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills to establish and maintain business relationships across all levels of the company and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with sound decision-making skills.
  • Effective planning, organizing, and negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in computer usage and office software programs, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS:
  • Travel is required to other company locations, events or supplier visits.
  • The incumbent may spend long periods sitting at a desk or computer terminal.
  • While performing duties, the employee regularly uses hands for tasks such as typing, reaching, and handling equipment, and engages in conversation.
  • Calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment may be used during a normal workday.
  • Some stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
