Position Summary
The Talent Acquisition Specialist supports the Talent Acquisition Manager and Director of Human Resources in the day-to-day operations of the department. Primary responsibilities include focusing on recruitment and retention efforts, onboarding and new hire paperwork, orientations for new employees, managing temporary employees' assignments and schedules, assisting with scheduling of student employees, and participating in recruitment efforts and activities. This position participates in HR-related training and development programs, helping to create and make improvements and efficiencies to our HR hiring and onboarding practices, and implementation of HR programs and HR documentation. The position is cross trained in administration of student scheduling, recruitment, training and development, and will provide support in various HR related administrative tasks.
Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time, non-exempt hourly position with a minimum requirement of 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm with occasional evening and weekend work required during peak periods and as job duties require. Additional hours are required at the start of school in August and January along with any special events held throughout the course of the year. Weekends and evenings are required during peak periods or as needed to support recruitment efforts.
Essential Functions
+ Develops and implements strategies for acquiring new talent with the Talent Acquisition Manager.
+ Analyzes our hiring and talent needs to anticipate hiring. Works closely with management to anticipate needs and fill positions.
+ Uses various diverse and creative methods to source qualified candidates.
+ Conducts a candidate screening process including resume screening, phone interview, and in person interview process on various roles within our organization.
+ Represents the organization at various job fair and hiring events including student focused events on campus to hire student employees.
+ Administrative functions including following the collective bargaining agreement for union job postings and bids, awarding of job bids and transfers.
+ Conducting and processing of background checks including but not limited to criminal background checks, department of motor vehicle checks, and reference checks on applicable employees.
+ Preparing and executing on-boarding paperwork (electronic and paper) as well as conducting in person orientations for new hires.
+ Executes orientation day basic training on company policies and procedures including taking the employee to their designation unit of work and providing them a brief introduction and tour of parking/entrance to the assigned operation. Requires ability to drive company vehicle to transport the new hires.
+ Working with the Talent Acquisition Manager to utilize temporary employment agencies for placement of temporary labor. This includes communication on a daily basis to the agencies of the organizational needs, screening and ensuring paperwork is completed, background checks are processed, assignments and schedules are provided, schedule and execute temporary orientations for new hires, and communication of any performance feedback or attendance concerns back to the agency in a timely manner.
+ Responsible for assisting with the hiring process and placement of student employees and assisting with student scheduling during peak periods.
+ Maintains a visible presence, responds to information requests which may include searching for answers with appropriate staff, including tickets that are submitted by employees, and shares HR-related information as required with HR and line leadership
+ Responsible for maintaining and updating all new hire paperwork and onboarding processes in print and electronically.
+ Processes various payroll forms and changes as required as well as employee resignation and termination letters/documentation as needed.
+ Maintains attendance tracking records.
+ Tracks probationary employees' probationary periods as well as referral bonuses, processes payroll change forms as needed.
+ Cross trained on various tasks within the HR department and responsible for coverage of other employee's duties as needed.
+ Assists other members of the Human Resources team when needed and performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in HR, Business or related field or equivalent years of experience
Minimum of 2 years' experience in Human Resources

+ Familiarity with food service or hospitality industry preferred
+ Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community, and with vendors
+ Strong computer skills and proficient with MS Office tools
+ Exceptional attention to detail while maintaining a big picture perspective
+ Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
+ Ability to work independently; must be a self-starter with a proactive working style
+ Strong organization skills and ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and tasks
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Ability to maintain confidential information
+ Valid driver's license
Work Environment
The position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopies, phones, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.
The position requires travel between the three UB campuses using public transportation or your own personal vehicle. This position requires an onsite presence.
Physical and Mental Demands
+ Ability to stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours
+ Must be able to see, speak, and use both hands or prosthetics that will enable the performance of necessary job functions
+ Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
+ While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
+ The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
+ The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and or move up to 25 lbs
+ Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
+ Ability to demonstrate safe driving practices.
Licensure/Certification
SHRM or HRCI certification preferred
Travel
Travel between UB campuses may be required. May need to attend conferences and/or special events
