Summary/Purpose of Position: As part of the Tarleton State Experience at Fossil Rim (TSE) program, applicants must have the required recommendation by the designated Tarleton faculty before applying. This position is a learning opportunity through a joint venture between Fossil Rim Wildlife Center (Fossil Rim) and Tarleton State University. Participants in the TSE will be part of a program that is responsible for engaging guests in the environment by applying knowledge gained through Fossil Rim seminars/job shadowing and Tarleton courses.
Description of Position: The responsibilities of TSE participants include, but are not limited to the following:
* Ensure excellent guest service and professionalism.
* Engage guests in discovering the environment through the creation and presentation of interpretive tours and programming.
* Maintain all required training, seminars, and certifications for this position.
* Help develop and present environmental engagement programs based on knowledge gained from both Tarleton and Fossil Rim classes and seminars.
* Participate in learning opportunities about wildlife/environmental careers and zoological operations.
* Utilize Point of Sale Systems and show accuracy of sales transactions.
* Maintain equipment and supplies.
* Ensure accuracy and proficiency of knowledge regarding all aspects of Fossil Rim's operations, including policies, procedures, and animal/ environmental information and programming.
Experience and Qualities Required:
* Ability to deliver professional, friendly, and helpful customer service to all guests and staff.
* Knowledge of environmental/conservation concepts and/or willingness to learn.
* Ability to facilitate guests' environmental engagement through personal insights, interpretive learning, and interpersonal skills.
* Current enrollment in Tarleton State University and recommendation from designated Tarleton State University faculty.
* Organized, well spoken, and effective communicator.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision
Work Requirements:
* Up to 29-hour week requiring flexibility. Available to work on weekends and holidays.
* Adherence to and understanding of Employee Handbook, Risk Management Plan, corporate procedures and policies, departmental mission and goals, and Fossil Rim mission, values and goals.
* Ability to stand for long periods of time
* Ability to lift up to 50lbs
* Ability to work outside for several hours at a time in weather ranging from extreme heat (100F+) to extreme cold (0F) and in wet conditions.
* Good driving record and valid Driver's License. Must be 21 years of age or older.
