DescriptionAn ultra-premium, small production winery nestled in the picturesque San Pasqual Valley, located just 30 minutes from San Diego, between Interstate 15 and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The tasting room and patio overlooks the 70-acre estate. Our tree lined familyfriendly picnic area features grassy knolls and picnic tables. Orfila produces critically acclaimed wines using Italian and French varietals, including those from the Rhône Valley, Burgundy and Bordeaux. We source our grapes from both the estate and select vineyards from Sonoma, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara Counties. We offer paid holiday and vacation time off, medical benefits and company discounts!RequirementsAs an Orfila Winery Barback, you will be responsible for assisting with a smooth running of our tasting room. The role will work alongside our fun, vibrant team. The position will report directly to the Tasting Room Manager and be responsible for making sure our guests receive an excellent experience each and every time they visit. The ideal candidate is a person who is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about wine. The duties of a Barback include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Excellent people skills, able to project a friendly and helpful manner at all times.
  • Greet incoming and departing guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact.
  • Provide exceptional guest hospitality and service to ensure guests enjoy their experience.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, such as restocking the bar area with wine, water, glasses, and anything needed for the Servers to complete their duties.
  • Ensuring the wines are kept cool, and well stocked.
  • Keeping the bar area and general areas clear of clutter and trash.
  • Keeping bar clean by wiping down surfaces, sweeping and mopping, removing soiled glass-wear, cleaning bathrooms and emptying trash cans.
  • Help Servers by setting and clearing tables; replenishing water.
  • Able to perform quality of work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to be responsive and flexible at last minute requests.
  • Be open to change.
  • General cleanliness of the venue.
  • Washing glasses.
  • Assisting with transporting wine to customer vehicles if needed.
  • When possible, address and resolve any guest complaints; notify management ASAP about any unresolved guest complaints that they need to handle.
  • Assist the servers with clearing and resetting tables while maintaining very high sanitation standards.
  • Fill water glasses, polish silver and glassware, and run food to tables.
  • Always maintain a composed and professional attitude.
  • Become familiar with all returning guests and know their special requests and needs.
CORE COMPETENCIES/REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Previous experience in hospitality, customer service, or food and beverage service preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.
  • Passion for wine and eagerness to learn about different varietals, wine regions, and wine production methods.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed.
  • RBS certification for responsible beverage service required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry trays of wine glasses and bottles.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach frequently.
