BGLIG's goal of developing college ready students includes enrichment programs in the performing arts.Position OverviewAt The Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School (BGLIG,) Teaching Assistants understand and promote the school's mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The Teaching Assistant is responsible for supporting the instructional program, supporting the individual needs of all children in a dual language setting, in accordance with the school's mission and values established by its charter.Instruction & Classroom Management
- Supports the teacher in planning and implementing a dual language program of instruction that adheres to the school's philosophy, goals and objectives.
- Provides instructional support to students during whole group, small group and center time configurations.
- Supports the teacher in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching and student engagement strategies.
- Observes each child daily to assess skills, interests and needs to facilitate learning and growth.
- Continuously monitors students to ensure safety at all times, and reports issues or concerns to the classroom teacher.
- Participates in grade level teams and other meetings within the school community to maximize a cohesive, collaborative and rigorous-learning environment.
- Help to maintain an organized and safe learning environment.
- Assists the classroom teacher in incorporating required activities into lesson plans that support children's development.
- Prepare materials for small group instruction, individual instruction and learning centers.
- Attend and actively participate in professional development workshops
- Teachers and TA's will share the work involved in planning, distributing, and marking homework.
Qualifications
- Alignment to BGLIG's core values and mission.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in Spanish.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or relevant field is preferred, but not required.
- New York Teaching Assistant Level I Certificate or higher required.
- Excellent written, grammatical, and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding and compassion for the needs of our families and students, experience working with South Bronx or similar communities. Solid understanding of best practices for classroom activities and teaching.
- Proficient in use of technology, including various G Suite teaching tools.
