Rate: $18.50/hr on W2 (No Benefits)
Job Description
The Teaching Assistant will work in the Education Department of a juvenile correctional facility, supervising students in the absence of the classroom teacher. Key responsibilities include maintaining classroom order, assisting students with assignments, monitoring attendance, and supporting the classroom teacher in daily instruction. The role requires effective classroom management, participation in professional development, and collaboration with other staff members to enhance the learning environment.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and assist students with completing assignments during the absence of the teacher.
Monitor attendance, student behavior, and daily classroom records.
Collaborate with other departments to foster a positive learning environment.
Provide written reports and participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams as required.
Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment in compliance with policies.
Promote a positive working relationship with students, staff, and external agencies.
Successfully complete required training, certifications, and security checks.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to implement daily and weekly lesson plans in the absence of the teacher.
Ability to create a positive learning environment to support student growth.
Preferred/Nice to Have:
Substitute teaching permit (required upon starting but can be obtained during training).
Experience working with students in an educational setting.
Additional Requirements
Candidate must pass CAI and DOC background checks, including drug screening, TB test, DCS check, and fingerprinting.
If a substitute teaching permit is not already held, the candidate will need to obtain one during their training period (at a cost of $35, covered by the candidate).
Candidate may be required to shadow a teacher or undergo an onsite evaluation as part of the hiring process.
Interview Process
Initial Screening: Phone interview with the Principal and/or Department of Education (DOE).
Onsite Interview: May include a tour, classroom shadowing, and additional steps for background verification.
