Team Leader

The Hopkins Dining is seeking a Team Leader who will provide day-to-day management support and overall direction to the hourly team members for dining operations. Responsibilities include oversight of menu signage, training programs, food safety, production, postproduction, presentation of food, inventory management and cost control. As well as adherence to local, state and national food sanitation regulations, and proper use of necessary kitchen equipment.

This position reports to the location manager and shares the commitment to create an environment that enhances the dining experience of Hopkins students and supports the academic mission of the University. Focusing on the student experience and quality execution will be vitally important in the role. This position will also participate in team meetings and planning efforts to ensure we maintain the highest level of service and quality for Johns Hopkins University students.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Administrative

* Work with hourly team members to ensure adherence to schedules so there is no disruption in service and to limit overtime labor.

* Review payroll, make necessary notes and make recommendations to location manager.

* Collaborate with the dining team to develop opening schedule and operations calendar.

* Ensure opening and closing checklists are complete each day.

* Monitors post production sheets daily.

* Make recommendations for discipline to the location manager.

Operations

* Ensure compliance with food standards and presentation via recipes, and food production sheets in collaboration with the culinary team and location manager.

* Ensure all sanitation and safety regulations are being followed in collaboration with the Safety and Sanitation Manager.

* Ensure opening and closing duties are completed daily.

* Coordinate with service contractors for all equipment needs of the location.

* Respond and assist in any student service issues.

* Ensure team members have the tools necessary to complete their jobs and if there are needs for the team make recommendations to location manager.

* Builds and maintains strong professional relationships with students, and dining team members.

* Ensure show quality standards are maintained at all times.

* Confirm the best customer service is given at all times by all team members.

* Execute events in the location in accordance with the marketing calendar.

* Ensure authenticity in menus including the digital signage.

* Maintain the smallware's inventory for location and report any shortages to the location manager.

* Support management for all openings of main dining operations as well as opening of new projects.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment which requires a high level of independent thinking, integrity, attention to detail and flexibility.

* Demonstrated use of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages to include BlackBoard Transact, online software suites and advanced knowledge of related technologies.

* Self-directed, able to establish timelines and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

* Excellent written and oral communications skills, including the ability to articulate issues clearly to a diverse audience.

* Demonstrated commitment and ability to practice open and effective communications with students; University faculty, staff and administration; contractor partners and external groups to build and maintain collaborative relationships.

* Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks, and use good judgment in providing services based on goals.

Additional Information

* This position is considered essential personnel and will be asked to be on site as needed during the semester as a point of contact for the dining team. This position will also need to execute flex hours (including weekends) to ensure proper management at all times and to execute events that fall later in the day or on weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

* High School Diploma or graduation equivalent required.

* Three (3) years related experience required. Experience should include previous experience in a foodservice operation in a supervisory role or higher with a preference in collegiate dining, managing the service and repair of foodservice facilities and equipment and working in a contract management environment.

* Current Serv Safe certification and Allertrain certification or the ability to be certified within three months of employment.

* Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

* Associates Degree preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $18.20 - $33.90 HRLY ($48,801 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
