Key responsibilities and accountabilities:1. Investigate factory quality problems, customer and consumer complaints using a broad range of skills and techniques such as* Can performance testing* Seam evaluations* Coating performance tests* Microscopy and metallography* Plant trials* Bev/Food processing simulation* Provide reports with clear conclusions and recommendations2. Manage and record work requests using appropriate IT systems* Prioritise work to ensure business needs are met and time is used effectively* Work within the Technical Support Team to ensure all requests are dealt with and resources are allocated efficiently* Liaise with other teams, departments and/or external resources to ensure the root cause of a problem can be established* Maintain proactive communication with stakeholders* Regularly review work for value added opportunities and update value added report* Monthly reports3. Contribute to the wider activities of Materials and Crown Technology* Proactive approach to environment, health and safety and energy saving initiatives* Involvement in development and innovation teams as required* Full participation in workshopsESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSProfessional and academic qualifications:* Degree in science or engineering subjectOr* Several years relevant experience in a similar technical support rolePrevious experience* Demonstrated ability to work in a laboratory or manufacturing environmentSkills and competencies* Excellent written communication skills* Excellent interpersonal/verbal communication skills* Able to manage and plan multiple work requestsPersonal attributes* Customer focussed problem solver* Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision, but also effective as a member of a team* Diligent and attention to detail* Able to learn and apply new techniques quickly and effectively* Enjoys a balance of practical work, job management and reportingLanguagesEnglishPREFERRED REQUIREMENTS* Continuous improvement (eg 6σ) trained* Experience of metal packaging technology (beverage cans or metal vacuum closures)* Beverage and or Food filling and processing* Statistical knowledge* Trained in one or more relevant investigation techniques* Strategic thinker - able to translate problems into improvement opportunities
