Position Summary

As a KSEF On-Mountain Coaching Team Member, you will play a vital role in helping our athletes achieve their skiing and racing goals. You will work closely with the Head Coach, Executive Director, Assistant Program Director, and other coaching staff to deliver top-notch training programs, mentor athletes, and contribute to the team's overall success. Your passion for ski racing, commitment to athlete development, and proactive approach will be key to creating a strong, supportive team environment.

General Responsibilities
  • Collaborative Coaching: Work alongside the Head Coach to implement the team's training plan, ensuring that all athletes receive age-appropriate instruction in skiing and ski racing.
  • Athlete Development: Teach skiing and ski racing techniques that foster growth, confidence, and a deep love for the sport.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a respectful, punctual, and well-prepared presence both on and off the hill. Represent KSEF positively within the Kirkwood community.
  • Proactivity: Take initiative in addressing tasks and challenges, ensuring all team equipment and logistics are well-managed.
  • Team Participation: Attend weekly team planning and coaches' meetings, contributing actively to the ongoing development of the program.
  • Community Engagement: Uphold and promote the values and philosophies of KSEF, creating a positive, inclusive environment for athletes and families.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Athlete Mentorship: Guide and mentor KSEF athletes, helping them navigate the challenges of ski racing and develop their full potential.
  • Race Support: Assist with race preparations, including intents, entries, and competition planning. Provide support during races to ensure athletes perform at their best.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborate closely with the KSEF coaching staff to ensure cohesive team management throughout the season.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee team equipment, including waxing skis, maintaining tools, and managing the wax room. Report any maintenance or replacement needs to the Head Coach.
  • Travel and Athlete Supervision: Support athletes during travel, ensuring they make safe and responsible decisions. Conduct room checks and monitor behavior to maintain a respectful and focused team atmosphere.
  • Competition and Travel: Drive to race and training venues, attend team captain meetings, and ensure smooth athlete and race management both at home and away competitions.
  • Video Analysis: Assist with video capture and review, providing athletes access to footage supporting their technical development.
  • Athlete Safety: Prioritize the safety and well-being of athletes, both on the mountain and during travel, ensuring a supportive environment where they can thrive.
Equipment Management
  • Inventory Maintenance: Keep accurate records of all KSEF equipment, ensuring everything is in good working order. Assist with repairs or replacements as needed.
Administration
  • Event Support: Assist in organizing and executing KSEF events, including end-of-season awards, race result updates, and team meetings.
  • Communication: Maintain clear, effective communication with the Head Coach, Executive Director, Assistant Program Director, and Board of Directors, addressing any issues or concerns promptly.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate athletes, parents, and team members.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and prioritize effectively.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to quickly learn new software as needed.
  • Open-Mindedness: A willingness to learn, adapt, and embrace new coaching methods and ideas.
  • USSS Certification: All coaching team members are required to complete the USSS Level 100 certification or actively work towards it during the season. KSEF will reimburse this cost.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in ski coaching, particularly in a youth or competitive setting.
  • Strong understanding of alpine ski racing rules and regulations.
  • A passion for skiing and a commitment to helping young athletes succeed.
