Job Description:
This position will report directly to the Environmental Health and Safety Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist in the routine inspection and testing of life safety systems, including but not limited to; fire alarms, fume hoods, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, sprinklers, fire doors, AED, first aid kits, chemical and bio-safety materials, etc. to ensure they are operational and compliant with safety codes.
* Maintain inventory stock of life safety system equipment.
* Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks on fire alarm equipment.
* Conduct periodic inspections of campus buildings to identify fire and building code violations.
* Coordinate with external vendors or contractors for more complex repairs or system upgrades.
* Monitor fire alarm systems through central control panels and respond promptly to alarms and alerts.
* Document and report any issues or irregularities observed during monitoring.
* Work closely with the Facilities Management and Safety and Security teams to address fire safety concerns and implement improvements.
* Assist in preparing reports, posting notices, and communicating regulations involved in compliance audits and safety inspections, inclusive of all health and safety areas.
* Communicate effectively with members of professional and academic staff and student body.
* Maintain and monitor the Emergency Broadcast system in accordance with NYS Building Codes.
Requirements:
* Associates Degree required; two years of fire alarm systems or related field experience.
* Building Safety Inspector Certificate or higher within 1 year of employment. Certified Safety Professional certification preferred.
* Previous experience in fire alarm system maintenance or a similar role is advantageous.
* Basic knowledge of fire alarm systems, fire safety regulations, and emergency response procedures.
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to respond to emergencies and work under pressure.
* This position may require occasional evening or weekend work.
* Physical ability to climb ladders, lift equipment, and perform maintenance tasks.
* Work may be performed in various environmental conditions, including confined spaces.
Additional Information:
* SL-2 position with a salary range of $50,000 - $60,000
* The schedule is Monday through Friday; however, it will require occasional nights and weekends.
