Technical Writer - Tech Valley Talent : Job Details

Tech Valley Talent (TVT) has a remote opening for a Technical Editor and Writer.

DURATION: 1 year

LOCATION: Remote; Albany, New York - client prefers candidates located in EST due to location of client

The successful candidate will assist the Marketing team with a backlog of research and technical reports. The program submits roughly 60 technical, quarterly, and annual reports each year through corporate marketing to be edited, formatted and made accessible for web posting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, technical writing, communications, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years business experience OR an unrelated Bachelor's degree and 5 years of direct, relevant experience
• Superior command of the English language including rules and usage
• Understanding of style sheets, and the ability to apply
• Understanding of the application of AP Style and Chicago writing Manuals
• Ability to understand and interpret technical information ensuring it is written in a clear and convincing way
• Proficient computer skills especially Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to easily change topic focus while maintaining consistent editing standards
• Working knowledge of document accessibility and formatting documents with accessibility in mind
• Advanced formatting and editing skills in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
• Proven technical editing skills
• Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and time management skills
• Experience with a variety of writing styles: technical, creative, and marketing
• Experience editing for both expert and general audiences
• Flexibility to edit with a variety of audiences in mind including consumer, business, academia, and government
• Skill in managing multiple diverse activities simultaneously, delivering on commitments and varying deadlines and operating with speed, accuracy and strong judgment
• Relentless work ethic and ever-present curiosity
• Resolute integrity
• Technical background is a plus

Day to Day Tasks

• Proofread to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, syntax, and consistency according to identified style manuals
• Edit copy to improve readability
• Edit copy to ensure no content raises liability or negative impressions
• Confer with program team members regarding changes in content, style, or organization
• Review proofs submitted by marketing's creative services team prior to publication production
• Follow and develop processes and style guidelines
• Format reports, tables, graphics, etc.
• Edit copy with accessibility in mind
• Perform Quality Checks for documents prior to publication
