Position Overview
The Technical Writing Specialist is responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation, including policies, procedures, manuals, white papers, and other related materials. This role translates complex technical information into clear, concise documents tailored to various target audiences. The specialist compiles, organizes, and summarizes data from multiple sources and ensures processes are executed in alignment with company standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Writing & Content Management
- Support the development of engineering-related policies, procedures, manuals, white papers, presentations, and other documentation.
- Provide editing, layout, and publishing support to ensure high-quality materials are produced.
Database Maintenance
- Maintain and update the stock material catalog, compatible units, and the manufacturer data catalog.
Data Compilation & Presentation
- Create spreadsheets to compile large sets of data for evaluation and presentation.
Collaboration with Subject Matter Experts
- Participate in meetings or interviews with subject matter experts to gather technical information and clarify documentation requirements.
Documentation Requests
- Coordinate requests for documentation and supporting evidence.
Subject Matter Resource
- Act as a subject matter resource to all levels of the organization.
Process Improvement
- Recommend alternative processes and practices to improve efficiency.
Compliance & Adherence
- Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with company policies, codes, and applicable regulations.
Additional Duties
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Technical Communications, Engineering Technologies, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience in technical writing and editing.
- Candidates without a bachelor's degree must have at least 7 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years in technical writing and editing.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills
- Company and department policies, procedures, and practices.
- Software applications such as AutoCAD, Visio, Maximo, and Oracle.
Skills:
- Project management, including task identification, scheduling, and cost/expenditure tracking.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in consulting with internal and external customers on sensitive or complex matters.
- Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization, adapting to different styles and backgrounds, and offering alternatives and recommendations.
