Experience: Experience working with school system technology is preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Leading-edge knowledge and experience in the assessment, implementation, management, and coordination of technology needs relevant to an educational environment. The candidate should possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills and demonstrate high proficiency and/or ability in the following areas: User Training; Leadership and Collaboration when working with employee and community resources to fulfill the system's mission; Technology Purchasing Processes; and in providing Operational Support Services. Most importantly, the candidate should be keenly interested in and thoroughly understand using computers and other advanced technology as resources for instruction. Primary Function: Manage both the instructional and administrative technology programs in the school system. Work to enhance the teaching/learning process at the school level and the efficiency of day to day business and administration functions throughout the system. Provides staff-level leadership in the identification, assessment, and management of technology needs for the school system. Directs, coordinates, supervises, facilitates, and performs all tasks and elements needed to effect comprehensive integration of advanced technology into every facet of operations, but especially in the instructional process wherever doing so will improve teaching/learning effectiveness. Performance Responsibilities:
  • Supervises the following: Technology Coordinator; Data Coordinator; Data Specialists; Technology Specialists; Technology Support Specialists; Lead Technology Support Specialists.
  • Coordinate the development, continuing refinement, and execution of master technology plans for each school and the school system which comprehensively
  • Define current and future technology needs so the Superintendent, Board of Education, and Principals may make informed decisions as they prioritize and allocate limited financial and human resources.
  • Coordinates the involvement of employees, community, state and other users and resources in technology planning, equipment/device selection and utilization as needed to ensure needs are addressed in the most effective and efficient manner possible. Develops teams of employees, community members, and others as needed to take maximum advantage of specialized knowledge and skills and to ensure continuous sensitivity and responsiveness to end-user perspectives.
  • Develops and coordinates a system-level resource center to provide access by all employees to a broad range of technology-based instructional media, equipment supervision of comparable school-based centers. Integrates resources of all centers (system and school level) to maximize the availability and utilization of resources and minimize waste. In conjunction with this duty, develops and maintains an inventory of technology-related fixed assets at all locations.
  • Coordinates the selection and purchasing of computer equipment, software and related technology items to ensure all acquisitions provide optimum utility and cost-effectiveness. Reviews all orders/requisitions for the purchase of such items, and exercises authority to approve, amend or reject purchases based upon compatibility with needs, interests, and related concerns of the total school system.
  • Supervises the development and execution of a comprehensive and cost-effective program providing preventive maintenance and repair services for technology devices in order to maximize their efficiency and useful life while minimizing costs and disruptions in school system instruction and administration that might result from being out of service. Provides direction/information to owners/users regarding the serviceability of technology devices (i.e., useful life and cost-effectiveness or anticipated repairs) so available funds may be spent as wisely as possible.
  • Initiates and/or coordinates the application and administration of technology-related grants and gifts to optimize external funding of school and system needs. Including the coordination of maintenance and purchasing for technology related equipment.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent.
