Salary: $15.00 - $17.00 HourlyLocation : Champaign, ILJob Type: Part-time 14-19 hour positionJob Number: 00190 - 1.2025Department: Children's ServicesOpening Date: 01/03/2025Closing Date: Continuous DescriptionUnder the guidance and direction of the Children's Services Manager, the Teen Programming Page assists the Teen Librarian with after-school programming for teens, and summer programming for teens and school age children, including engaging the teens in activities such as technology, games, crafts, etc. and providing supervision for the teen areas to ensure appropriate behavior and use of the space. Performs a variety of tasks related to assisting, staffing, and supervising after-school teen programs.Schedule is as follows:
- Mondays: 2p - 5p. During the school year, two Mondays a month will be 11:30a - 5p
- Tuesday - Friday: 2p - 5p
Examples of Duties
- Assists the Teen Librarian in preparing and executing after-school activities for middle school and high school students, and summer activities for middle school students and school age children.
- Engage teens in activities, including crafts, games, and technology
- Assists with training of staff and volunteers
- Assists with programs for the Children's Department
- Monitor and address customer behavior to ensure a safe and welcoming environment
- Participates in departmental and library-wide training and activities, including technology and safety training
- Provides excellent internal and external customer service
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements

- Schedule may include daytime, evening, and weekend shifts
- Ability to demonstrate technology skills and learn new technology like 3D printing
- Ability to issue guidance and ensure compliance with the Library's Rules of Conduct and policies
- Good vision and hearing to effectively engage with customers
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer, phone, and makerspace equipment
- Familiarity with workplace productivity software, including skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Physical ability to handle and lift library materials weighing approximately 40 pounds and setup for events
- Ability to push fully loaded carts of library materials
- Satisfactory pre-employment background check
Acceptable Experience and Training
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Experience working with teens is preferred
- Customer service experience is preferred
- Knowledge of Spanish and/or French is helpful
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Vacation Leave Accrual
- 1.5385 hours per bi-weekly pay period (45 hours, or five days per year)
Bereavement LeavePaid leave will be given for the loss of an immediate family member (as defined in our Staff Handbook) for up to five consecutive days, including the day of the funeral. To be eligible for the prorated bereavement leave, the employee must give reasonable notice to his/her department manager and specify the time and date when the employee will return to work. Leave will be paid only for the scheduled work time lost and will not count toward extra or overtime hours.HolidaysThe Library is closed on the following nine (9) days: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve Day, and Christmas Day. With the exception of Easter Sunday, all of these days are paid holidays, pro-rated for 19- hour and under employees at three (3) hours for each holiday. The Library will remain open for Juneteenth and staff members will receive a floating holiday.Employee Assistance ProgramThe Library provides a confidential Employee Assistance Program.
