Job Title: Communication Engineer

Location: FULLY REMOTE

Duration: 12-month contract, ongoing extensions

Hours: M-F 7:00am-3:30pm EST

Pay Rate: $60-$90/h (flexible)

About the Role:

Insight Global is looking for a REMOTE Communication Engineer to support one of our local energy and utilities clients based out of Southern Indiana. This person will work alongside other communication engineers to being completing a backlog of telecommunication, tele-protection, and SCADA equipment projects. This person will be making short and long range schedules of telecommunications, tele-protection, automation, and SCADA installations in coordination with other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recommends changes that will lead to improvements in key performance indicators based on analysis of incidents that have impacted performance. Utilizes knowledge and experience gained in assigned area of expertise to assist others with solution development. Determines appropriate balance between predictive and corrective activities
  • Provides the technical expertise, specifies, and coordinates schemes and equipment for telecommunication, teleprotection, automation, and SCADA systems. Provides the layout and equipment specifications for all associated projects and system applications. Oversees the design of power delivery communication, teleprotection, automation, and SCADA equipment. Assures compliance with our client's project management structure, NERC/RRO and other industry standards and successful mitigation of constraining issues.
  • Makes short- and long-range schedules of telecommunications, teleprotection, automation, and SCADA installations in coordination with other departments. Provides technical input for the review of all future plans for facilities. Prepares the annual work plan and budget of the implementation of telecommunications, teleprotection, automation, and SCADA projects. Stays abreast of related technologies, and researches and develops innovations, alternatives and/or expansions of services with emphasis on logistics, economy and service.
  • Reviews the specifications, operational check-outs and other verifications of newly-acquired equipment for the compatibility with existing and future system applications. Formulates settings and reviews the logic and control schemes that will ensure compatibility with the overall power system network communications
  • Represents our client in collaborating with managers and staff of member cooperatives or interconnected utilities in the specification, installation, calibration, testing and operational analyses of schemes and equipment of telecommunications, teleprotection, automation, and SCADA.
  • Analyzes issues resulting in reduced system reliability and capacity, increased costs and risk to identify needed projects and studies related to assigned area of expertise. Develops alternatives that meet project objectives and utilize sound engineering methods to demonstrate project feasibility

MUST HAVES:

  • 3 years of identical field experience or 10+ years of general energy/utility/telecoms experience
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • SCADA experience
  • AutoCAD – 1 line and 3 line diagrams
  • RTU replacement experience

Plusses:

  • Project Management experience
  • Schwitzer D&P Mapping experience

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
