POSITION SUMMARYTo provide patient and family centered care in accordance with Sky Lakes Medical Center mission, philosophy, policies and procedures. Provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. Verbally redirects patients from engaging in at risk behaviors detrimental toward self or others. Alerts nursing staff if the patient requires assistance. Is knowledgeable and supportive of the organizations confidentiality and related hospital policies. QUALIFICATIONSRequired: Good communication skills both verbal and written; Good telephone etiquette; Medical terminology; Typing and basic computer operation skills; Experience in hospital environment and clinical setting.Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent; Direct patient care. TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDSAbility to organize, plan and prioritize work to complete within required time frames and to follow up on pending issues. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and remain calm under stressful situations. Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time while remaining alert at all times. Need effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues, exchange information between team members, and tactfully discuss issues.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDemonstrates understanding and proficiency in use of the visual camera monitoring system; ability to effectively communicate with patients using a microphone and headset.Maintains visual observation of assigned patients at all times. Verbally redirects patient over digital two-way audio device that is in patient room. Immediately alerts nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.Provides the appropriate care to the patient population based on the patient's individualized treatment plan as assigned and supervised by the RN.Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behaviors about assigned patients upon arrival and completion of shift assignment.Provides patient with explanation as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinions.Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazards from room and reports finding to primary nurse/charge nurse/hospital supervisor.Demonstrates safe work practices/attitudes, follows safety rules. Works to prevent unsafe conditions/behaviors and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONSPerforms other duties as assigned.
