The Department of Family Social Science is seeking a Community Research Assistant to work with the Hmong RPA Writing System Project. The Community Research Assistant will work directly with Dr. Zha Blong Xiong and Dr. Jenna Cushing-Leubner, along with MN Zej Zog, the collaborative core team, and members of the community advisory council. The Community Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups with various community members/stakeholders, transcribing and translating interviews and focus group discussions into English, coding interviews and focus group discussions with the research team, and drafting preliminary findings and reports.

Job Responsibilities

Function 1 (15%)

* Conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups with various community members/stakeholders.

Function 2 (40%)

* Transcribing and translating interviews and focus group discussions into English.

Function 3 (30%)

* Coding interviews and focus group discussions with the research team.

Function 4 (10%)

* Drafting preliminary findings and reports.

Function 6 (5%)

* Working and directly communicating with community members in the community.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* BA/BS degree or higher (willing to train the right applicant).

* Ability to speak, read, write, understand Hmong, especially in the RPA writing system.

* Strong written and oral communication skills in terms of reporting out and presenting results.

* Experience successfully working and directly communicating with community members in a research setting.

* Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

* Willing to travel around the Twin Cities.

* Have access to transportation.

* Flexible schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and qualitative analysis.

* Experience in transcribing, translating, and coding qualitative data.

* Experience in writing for publications.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The salary range for this position is $24-$30. Final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.

Time Appointment: 25%

Position Type: Part Time
