Position Title: Middle School Assistant Principal - TEMPORARYDepartment: Instructional Services DivisionReports To: PrincipalFLSA Status: ExemptSUMMARY: Responsible for providing assistance to the Principal in the administration of the total school program. Assists the principal in providing leadership in carrying out the goals and objectives of the School District and administering and supervising school programs toward the fullest possible development of each student.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal.
- Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance.
- Assists in managing building staff, including class schedules and building problems.
- Assists in supervising staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers.
- Assists scheduling special events during the school day.
- Assists with coordinating the development of the master teaching schedule and assigning teachers.
- Provides supervision for students on campus during extra-curricular activities, in parking lots, cafeteria, restrooms, athletic events and assemblies.
- Assists the principal with the administration, supervision and evaluation of the school's total instructional program.
- Assists in supervising and coordinating all student activity programs.
- Assists in conducting orientation for new teachers and student interns.
- Organizes and prioritizes time to maintain visibility and accessibility on school grounds and/or school events.
- Assists in supervising student attendance services, the registration of students and related services.
- Directs the summer instructional program and related services as assigned.
- Assists in development and maintenance of a philosophy of school discipline.
- Works as an integral part of the guidance department with students having difficulty in adjustment and behavior.
- Supervises and coordinates graduation activities where appropriate.
- Assists in the evaluation of faculty and staff as designated by the principal.
- Maintains comprehensive, multi-year files for students requiring disciplinary action.
- Assists in preparing and supervising all field trips and related forms, reports and procedures.
- Prepares and supervises teacher duty rosters for building, campus and activities as needed.
- Assists in supervising the buildings and grounds, including related budgets and personnel.
- Participates in professional learning as scheduled by the principal or district.
- Maintains relationship with parents and community.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONSEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree in Education and minimum three (3) years of experience in teaching.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid South Carolina Teaching License in one of the following areas:
- Elementary Principal (Tier I, Tier II)
- Elementary Supervisor
- Secondary Principal (Tier I, Tier II)
- Secondary Supervisor
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises employees in the School when the Principal as directed by the school principal.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from community, regulatory agencies, or members of staff.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of assessment data. Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to quickly assess employee, departmental and administrative needs and provide timely feedback.OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group. Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance to scheduled deadlines. The position requires meeting deadlines, and interacting with teachers, administrators, parents, and community members.
