This recruitment will be used to fill two full-time Temporary Biological Science Research Technician 1 positions for the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Technology at Oregon State University (OSU).

This temporary position will assist staff at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest with temporary work for key long-term avian and microclimate research programs. The position will involve a mix of field and office work and will be based at the Andrews Experimental Forest in Blue River, Oregon

Key Responsibilities

20% - Assist in the installation and retrieval of bioacoustics sensors.

40% - Conduct annual avian point count surveys to document long-term bird demography.

20% - Assist with data entry and quality control for avian datasets. Manually enter data from datasheets into Excel files using a specific format, and check data entry for errors.

20% - Assist in the data collection of long-term forest microclimate data

Field work requires driving to/from and between field sites. All duties include working collaboratively with other members of the research team to contribute to a work environment that is safe, inclusive and respectful for all team members.

What We Require

Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science); OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

What We Would Like You to Have

* Previous experience working with avian field research.

* Familiarity with point count protocols.

* Ability to identify songbirds by sight and sound.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

The work schedule will average 40 hours per week but may include some workdays that are more than 8 hours. Duties will be interspersed, with fieldwork occurring on specific days and data entry (as dictated by need and staff schedules). Office work will require sitting at a computer for prolonged periods and repetitive motions. Field work will require the ability to hike on and off trail on steep terrain in inclement weather and moderate to strenuous physical work such as hauling, lifting, pulling and carrying weights up to 40 pounds per person.
