Summary:
The Temporary Career Advisor will support seniors in their transition to the workforce by collaborating with career development staff to facilitate a career fair. This includes managing individualized invitations, follow-up communications, registration, and marketing efforts to ensure that soon-to-be graduates have direct access to potential employers and job opportunities aligned with their career aspirations. The advisor will also establish and maintain relationships with employers to create internship and employment opportunities for students, while planning and promoting various career-related programs and events, including information sessions and networking opportunities. The temporary career advisor will facilitate daily career-advising appointments with students and alumni. The advisor will engage in discussions to gather information about employment history, educational background, and career goals, helping to identify any barriers to their success. They will instruct individuals in career development techniques, such as job search strategies, resume writing, and interviewing skills. They will maintain accurate student records to track engagement. The advisor will contribute to the overall success of the Career Development Center by performing all other assigned duties and responsibilities. This position will be 11 weeks during the spring semester.
Education: A bachelors degree is required. A masters degree in a relevant field is preferred, such as counseling, higher education administration, human resources, or a related area. Certification as a Career Counselor, Career Services Provider, or a Master of Career Services through the National Career Development Association (NCDA) is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in career advising, counseling, or a related field, preferably within a higher education setting. Familiarity with event planning and coordination, particularly for career fairs and networking events.
Skills:
Pay Rate: $31.00 - $33.20 per hour
Working on-campus is preferred but remote work is possible and preferably within New York State.
