Job Title: Temporary PRC 29 Behavior Support CounselorLocation: Perquimans Central SchoolJob Type: Temporary, Ends June 6, 2025Reports to: Chief Academic Officer of Student ServicesJob Summary:The Temporary PRC Behavior Support Counselor will provide individualized behavioral interventions and support to students, particularly those with special needs or behavioral challenges. This position is responsible for observing, assessing, and implementing behavior intervention plans under the guidance of the Exceptional Children's Case Manager. The counselor will work directly with students and their families, providing ongoing support to ensure the effective implementation of behavior modification strategies as well as linking families to services as appropriate. This is a temporary role for the 2024-2025 school year.Key Responsibilities:* Behavioral Assessment & Intervention:* Conduct assessments of client behavior and environment.* Develop, implement, and monitor behavior support plans (BSP) in collaboration with clinical staff.* Utilize evidence-based behavioral interventions to address specific needs.* Individual & Group Counseling:* Provide one-on-one or small group counseling to students with behavioral challenges.* Implement behavior management techniques during sessions to promote positive outcomes.* Collaboration:* Work with parents, teachers, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure consistency in behavior management across settings.* Provide training and guidance to caregivers on behavioral strategies.* Documentation & Reporting:* Maintain accurate and timely documentation of the student's progress, behavior incidents, and interventions used.* Prepare regular progress reports for staff and families.* Crisis Intervention:* Provide immediate support in crises, using de-escalation techniques as needed.* Ensure the safety of clients and others during behavioral outbursts or challenges.Qualifications:* Education:* A Master's degree in school counseling is required.* A license in school counseling is required.* Experience:* Experience in behavioral support, counseling, or working with individuals with special needs is strongly preferred.* Knowledge of behavioral management techniques (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is desirable.* Skills:* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.* Ability to build rapport with students, families, and team members.* Experience in crisis management and de-escalation techniques.* Organized with the ability to maintain detailed records and reports.* Certifications:* Certification in Behavior Management (e.g., CPI, RBT) is a plus, but not required.* Additional Requirements:* Ability to work flexible hours if necessary.* Strong understanding of confidentiality and professional ethics in a counseling or support setting.Physical Demands:* Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and assist with mobility if necessary.* Ability to remain on feet for extended periods.* Ability to manage physical intervention during behavior incidents when required.Working Conditions:* School environment.* Interaction with students and families of varying ages and backgrounds.
