Temporary Security Officers patrol selected sites to identify, report, and, when reasonable and possible, resolve security issues. They report suspicious and criminal activities and activities requiring additional personnel to the appropriate police agency. They also provide personal, equipment, and property security in assigned areas across Grounds and at the Hospital. They operate under the supervision of a Security Sergeant and have limited decision-making authority. These are unarmed, non-sworn civilian positions. This position is part-time and will work about 20-30 hours per week.
* Enforce all University and Health System security regulations, policies, and procedures.
* Provide security services for special assignments, such as sporting events and concerts, on a regular basis.
* Prepare reports.
* Operate SafeRide passenger van.
* Assist law enforcement officers with securing crime scenes as applicable.
* Assist and direct victims to appropriate resources.
* Manage crowd, access, and traffic duties.
* Apply security in a variety of situations and circumstances effectively using CPI & CRT techniques and CSO training.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
* Licensure: Active, valid Virginia driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Security employees are subject to respond to all types of situations including but not limited to, manmade and natural disasters, fires, weather related emergencies, other emergencies including those of a violent nature. Typical daily physical demands include, but are not limited to, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, driving, lifting, traveling and the use of both hands. Physical demands for security employees can change significantly from one day to the next based on the needs for a particular assignment and can include any of the above including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, twisting, climbing ladders and stairs and heavy lifting.
