Salary: $15.38 - $18.03 HourlyLocation : Winter HavenJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202400395Division: Corporate & Leadership DevelopmentDepartment: Art DepartmentOpening Date: 09/30/2024 Description Job Description: The basic purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert in support of a large performing arts and events program with a high volume of performances. Support activities include lighting, design, carpentry work, and advanced electrical responsibilities. Work is governed by broad instructions and objectives involving frequently changing conditions, problems and opportunities. Examples of Duties Essential Functions/Duties:
  • Assists the Director or assigned supervisor with the operation and maintenance of performing arts and event equipment, facilities, and venues.
  • Ensures safeguards are provided for performance related technical assets and event locations/venues. Stays current on safety regulations (OSHA & USITT) and ensures such regulations are adhered to by internal and external facility users.
  • Arranges for the repair and replacement of performance gear and other related equipment and structures within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment as directed.
  • Trains and assigns volunteers and/or paid technical staff for individual shows according to role in production and skill set.
  • Designs, installs, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for various productions, events, and gallery exhibits including, but not limited to theatre, music, dance, and other productions, events, and projects, both internal and external; assists guest designers and artists with technical matters.
  • Orients facility renters and visiting productions to safety requirements, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations; manages the use of the technical facilities by internal users and others engaged by or renting the facility.
  • Consults with internal and external facility users, production managers, and lighting and sound designers about technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for individual shows, events, and scenery designs. Assists with the supervision and implementation of approved technical designs.
  • Supervises and assists load-in and load-out of all equipment for productions, concerts, exhibits, and musicals. This will include theater equipment if assigned to the Winter Haven campus.
  • Attends rehearsals to supervise the technical aspects of events, musicals, exhibits and black box productions. This may include theater rehearsal sessions if assigned to the Winter Haven campus.
  • Distributes tools and equipment to be used in concerts, exhibits, musicals, black box productions and other events. This may include theater equipment if assigned to the Winter Haven campus.
  • Assists with the preparation and control of facility and production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
  • Inspects facility for cleanliness and safe auditorium accessibility and operations to ensure for a world class experience for patrons.
  • Assists with the supervision and/or installing art gallery exhibits as assigned.

  • Requires ability to work independently on broader assignments responsible for planning work. Makes decisions within accepted standards.
  • The ability to establish an effective rapport with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Good organizational skills, with special attention to detail.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide on-going feedback to assigned employees regarding specific performance activities.
  • Working knowledge of performance related electrical systems, lighting, audio equipment, and carpentry.
  • Basic office skills, including word processing, data entry and email.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid Florida driver license.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation and safety requirements.
Working Conditions/Additional Information
  • Often requires working evenings, early mornings, and weekends to supervise various productions.
  • Must multi-task and work proficiently in busy work areas.
  • Must be flexible and adapt well to change.
Salary and Benefits Information
  • This position is level C15.

  • Graduation from a standard high school (or equivalent) is required.
Preferred Education:
  • Formal technical training in production-related activities such as lighting, sound, electrical, carpentry and job safety is preferred.
Required Experience:
  • At least 3 years of work experience in the technical aspects of performing arts productions or related activities is required.
