What inspires you?Sheltering Arms, a premier provider of physical rehabilitation services, is currently seeking a motivated Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our Community Recreation Services Team. This position works with our Club Rec program.Club Rec is a day recreation program for individuals with a disability or physical limitation who can benefit from supervised social, recreational and wellness activities.Through a holistic approach, the Therapeutic Recreation Therapists at Club Rec promote healthy living and help members adapt to life after illness or injury, with the goal of enhancing their quality of life. Responsibilities for this opportunity include:
  • Evaluating members for the program
  • Creating appropriate group treatments
  • Program evaluation analysis
  • Discharge planning
  • Plans and implements creative programs for the monthly activity calendar.Must have strong creative program planning to provide a variety of therapeutic programs.
  • Monitors monthly expenses for cooking groups, outings and arts and crafts to meet budget targets.
  • Coordinates special events and plans offsite outings for participants which includes location, transportation and activities ensuring the safety and well-being of our participants.
  • Collects revenue and records payments in our computer system, Rec Trac.
  • Effectively manages membership caseload including progress notes on members, attendance and documenting emotional and/or behavioral issues that arise.
  • Communicates with families and documents in medical records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • NCTRC Certification required
  • CPR Certification required
  • Valid VA State Driver's License in good standing
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Must have excellent group dynamic leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Must be able to adapt communication style to meet members, visitors, families, and external customers.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, be competent in organizational, time management skills and demonstrate good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.
