Position Type: Support Staff/Teacher Assistant - Title IDate Posted: 9/6/2024Location: District 62 SchoolsDate Available: 9/2024Closing Date: When filled.Description: The Instructional Assistant supports classroom teachers to meet specified student learning needs set-out by the teacher. In order to accomplish this, the assistant may support the differentiation of instruction for students in literacy and/or math and may also assist with related assessment of student learning. The Instructional Assistant has direct contact with students under the supervision of the assigned teacher. If the position is grant-funded, it will function under the required guidelines of the grant and funding will be determined on a year to year basis. Job Summary: The Instructional Assistant will be paid $20 per hour not to exceed 599 hours over the course of the school year. The typical daily schedule is 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM for middle school or 8:40 AM - 3:40 PM for elementary school. Specific hours will be determined in conjunction with the building principal based on student needs. The Instructional Assistant reports to the assigned classroom teacher and the building principal. Qualifications:
- Must have paraprofessional approval from the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Must have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours of college coursework, have earned an Associate's degree, or have passed ETS or the WorkKeys tests.
- Must be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
- Working knowledge of literacy and mathematics at the elementary and/or middle school level as well as research-based instructional strategies preferred.
- Teaching experience or experience assisting in a classroom at the elementary or middle school level preferred.
- Valid Illinois Teaching Certificate preferred.
Working Conditions: District 62 has approximately 4,500 students in grades PreK-8 in 8 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 1 year-around, K-8 school.
