This position is crucial for overseeing the efficient management and operation of the tool room, ensuring tools are maintained in optimal condition, and supporting the production goals of the workshop. The manager is responsible for managing tool and supply inventory and implementing systems that increase productivity and quality.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties of a Tool Room Manager include the organization and management of the tool room, ensuring tools and equipment are properly maintained and available for use as needed. The manager must:
- Maintain a detailed inventory of tools and equipment and ensure their proper storage and maintenance.
- Work closely with production departments to understand their tool requirements and ensure timely availability.
- Implement and monitor systems for tracking tool usage and maintenance schedules to reduce downtime.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for the procurement of new tools or the repair of existing ones.
- Assist in budget preparation for the tool room operations and monitor expenditures.
Tasks and DutiesIn daily operations, the Tool Room Manager will handle a variety of tasks:
- Conduct regular audits of tools and equipment to ensure proper performance.
- Resolve any issues related to tool performance on the shop floor.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in tool room technologies and management practices.
- Prepare reports as requested, summarizing tool room activities/challenges and resource needs.
- Collaborate with team leads to streamline operations and support the overall production workflow.
Education and Certification RequirementsTo qualify for a Tool Room Manager position, candidates usually need the following:
- Significant experience in tool room operations or a similar role (3-5 years of experience).
- Inventory management, machining, mechanical/millwright experience is a definite plus.
