Tooling Design Engineer

Duration: Contract, 12 months
We are looking for an experienced Tooling Design Engineer to take on a key role in the development and design of high-quality tooling for production, assembly, testing, and material handling systems. This 12-month onsite contract position in Portland, Oregon, focuses on delivering innovative solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability in manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and design tooling and fixtures for production, testing, and manufacturing, including assembly and test fixtures, material handling systems, and custom machines.
- Create and review tooling drawings in compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards, addressing technical challenges to ensure optimal functionality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize safety, cost, quality, cycle time, and reliability.
- Utilize CAD and FEA-based analysis software to design and analyze tooling structures for maximum performance.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in the design, build, and commissioning of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
- Proficiency in CAD and FEA-based analysis software for structural applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to earn trust, build professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
- Familiarity with plastic molding, metal casting, metal extrusion, and metal stamping processes.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Experience with CAD software and FEA-based analysis tools.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Six Sigma techniques.
