Traffic Signal Technician I - City of Johnson City : Job Details

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Traffic Signal Technician I with the Public Works departments. The employee performs difficult skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices; does related work as required. Employees in this class perform the more skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance, repair and trouble shooting of traffic control signal devices. Traffic Signal Technicians are expected to work independently on routine assignments; however professional supervisors are available to advise and assist on unusual assignments. The work is performed under the supervision of the Traffic Systems Specialist or the Traffic Signs and Markings Specialist.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of electro-mechanical devices and high and low voltage electrical circuits; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work; ability to determine the cause of and correct the malfunction of traffic control devices; ability to make independent judgments to assure proper operation of City traffic signal units; good physical condition.Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or GED; supplemented by experience in electrical and/or electronics equipment and systems; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid commercial driver's license issued by the State of Tennessee.
