DescriptionConductor Duties -The Conductor performs groundwork such as:
- lining switches, operating derails, protecting movements,
- applying/releasing/testing brakes, coupling/uncoupling train cars, opening, aligning and carrying 80-pound coupler knuckles.
- connecting air hoses, installing, flagging crossings, opening/closing gated access to customer sites.
- assisting the Engineer in positioning the train by signaling and transmitting of information to the Engineer.
The Conductor is responsible for safe delivery of all freight carried by the train and for preparation and communication of records and data.The Conductor may also supply, inspect and perform minor repairs on locomotives, cars, and other equipment and perform other duties as assigned.The Conductor is responsible for the safe performance of duties and in compliance with all applicable government regulations, Company rules and policies, and safe job procedures.Locomotive Engineer Duties -The Locomotive Engineer ( Engineer ) operates locomotives, and attached train cars safely, effectively and efficiently in compliance with all applicable government regulations, company rules and policies, and safe work procedures.The Engineer also trains and evaluates qualified student Conductors. The Locomotive Engineer may also perform Conductor duties and other duties as assigned.Requirements
- At least two years' previous experience as a Certified Conductor is preferred. Military experience and/or two years' experience in construction or manufacturing trades is acceptable for consideration.
- At least two years' previous experience as a Certified Locomotive Engineer is preferred; new hires who are already Certified Conductors must successfully promote to Engineer within a timeframe set forth by the railroad and consistent with the governing labor agreement.
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license.
