POSITION SUMMARY
Schreiner University seeks a dedicated and dynamic Transfer Advisor to serve as a key resource for transfer students transitioning to the university, with a primary focus on STEM majors while supporting all academic disciplines. This role will work closely with a diverse population of Hispanic, low-income, and first-generation students from two-year colleges, rural high schools, and other backgrounds to promote their academic and career success. The Transfer Advisor will supervise two professional advisors, provide direct student support, and collaborate with the Transfer Outreach Coordinator on programs that facilitate the success of transfer students. This is a full-time, twelve-month position funded by Schreiner's HSI STEM Grant, reporting to the Registrar.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Academic Advising & Support
* Provide holistic academic and career advising for transfer students across all majors, with an emphasis on STEM disciplines.
* Develop, monitor, and review individualized student education plans, including course selection, registration, and academic interventions.
* Support students in exploring career pathways and major options to align with their goals.
* Promote financial literacy by helping students develop strategies for financial planning and sustainability.
Student Engagement & Success
* Create and maintain a supportive and inclusive social community to foster belonging and success for transfer students.
* Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus resources to connect students with mentors and support networks.
* Utilize knowledge of student development and engagement programming to develop initiatives that enhance student retention and success.
Collaboration with Transfer Outreach Coordinator
* Partner with the Transfer Outreach Coordinator to design and implement outreach efforts that support the transition and success of transfer students.
* Provide insights and support for outreach activities while focusing on direct advising and support services for students.
Leadership & Supervision
* Supervise and provide guidance to two professional advisors, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
* Ensure the professional advisors receive training and development opportunities aligned with institutional goals.
* Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
* Assist in the collection and analysis of data for HSI STEM Grant reports.
* Work nights and weekends as needed.
* Maintain University safety rules.
* Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
* Bachelor's degree in education or STEM-related field.
* Successful project management experience.
* Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, computer database, writing and communication skills.
* Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
* Prefer candidate with experience in success coaching/mentoring, advising, curriculum development, and optimization and integration of university resources.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
* Master's degree in education or STEM-related field.
* Experience advising, teaching, or counseling at the post-secondary level.
* Background in student development theory and practice.
* 1-3 years' experience in related or relevant position.
* Experience working with professionally and educationally disadvantaged populations.
* Personal or professional experience reflective of target population.
