We offer direct services, including afterschool & youth mentorship programming, job training & placement, elder care services, and social services such as citizenship & housing services.Job DescriptionChinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is seeking a mission-driven Transitions Specialist to guide Adult Education students in developing educational and career plans for successful transition to post-secondary education and/or employment. The Transitions Specialist will collaborate with Instructors to help students identify short- and long-term educational and career goals, serve as the liaison with other bridge and transition programs, connect with barrier reduction services, and coach students on skills required to succeed in school and work. This person will demonstrate skills in client-centered service, cross-cultural communications, administrative filing, and a commitment to working with immigrant and refugee populations. RequirementsEducational and Career Counseling
- Provide individualized counseling and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with limited English proficiency
- Advise students on further academic and educational opportunities
Collaborate and Reporting
- Regularly collaborate with Instructors and the Transitions Coordinator to discuss and track student progress and goals
- Report on student achievements and strategize on meeting their needs
- Collaborate with Workforce Development to encourage classroom-to-workforce opportunities
Outreach and Relationship Building
- Conduct outreach to prospective educational programs and employers and build relationships with agencies for student internship placement and career pathway development.
- Develop and maintain connections with agencies to support student career pathways
- Serve as liaison with community colleges for bridge and vocational programs
Coordination of Classroom Activities
- Collaborate with Instructors to organize enrichment activities - SMART goals, critical analysis for personal and professional goals
- Schedule guest speakers, organize field trips, and facilitate career pathway training for CMAA and partner agencies
Skill Building Workshops
- Conduct skill-building workshops and perform outreach to ensure student attendance
- Track attendance, evaluate workshop effectiveness, and make improvements as needed
Advocacy and Program Growth
- Advocate on behalf of Adult Education students and instructors
- Work with the Adult Education/Workforce Development team to identify and pursue opportunities for program growth, particularly in Bridge and Integrated Education and Training programming.
- Attending and presenting at partner meetings, representing CMAA; keeping abreast of relevant information, and updating partners as necessary
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (required)
- Proficiency with Google platforms, Microsoft Office, professional platforms, and LMSs
- Proven ability to work both independently and as a team member, cooperating with and demonstrating cultural sensitivity to staff and constituents
- Experience with limited-English proficient students and contextualized literacy and/or bridge
- Previous case management/coaching experience preferred, but not required
- Fluency in a second language is a plus but not required
Work Environment
- This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
- This is a largely sedentary role, however, some filing is required. This could require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
