JOB DESCRIPTIONThis position functions as a second line professional manager of professional positions in a complex work area. Manage a section with diverse staff to: identify, evaluate, and document social, economic, and environmental (SEE) impacts; obtain federal environmental clearances; monitor effectiveness of MDOT mitigation measures; minimize SEE Impacts of MDOT projects; negotiate with environmental resource agencies; ensure MDOT compliance with federal and state environmental laws and regulations; advise all areas of MDOT in SEE matters; and conduct public involvement activities. Serve as the Department?s expert on interpretation of the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), and as the Department?s primary liaison with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on NEPA related matters that require management-level review such as policy changes or new interpretations of existing rules.

The Salary listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the Transportation Planning Manager 15 position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEEducation Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: planning (city, community, environmental, regional, and/or urban), environmental studies and/or sustainability, engineering, statistics, mathematics, geography, geographic/geospatial information systems, logistics and/or supply chain management, or economics.

Experience

Six years of professional experience in the field of transportation planning equivalent to a Transportation Planner or Transportation Engineer, including three years equivalent to a Transportation Planner 12 or Transportation Engineer 12, two years equivalent to a Transportation Planning Specialist 13 or Transportation Engineering Specialist 13, or one year equivalent to a Transportation Planning Manager 14 or Transportation Planning Specialist 14 or Transportation Engineering Specialist 14 or Engineer Manager Licensed 14.
