Transportation Road Supervisor Kent ISD Full time, 220 day position Non-Union hourly Classified, Grade 5B Broad Statement of Responsibilities To observe, monitor, review and assist school bus drivers to maintain constant compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and to adhere to internal policies and procedures as well as to conduct regular and necessary training programs as needed.Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Instruct, review and evaluate drivers to ensure the proper pre-trip and post-trip inspection of school buses. Randomly evaluate eight (8) drivers perform this function each month.
  • Instruct, review and evaluate the driving performance of school bus drivers. Randomly evaluate eight (8) drivers perform this function each month.
  • Instruct, review and evaluate all wheelchair securement and lift operations. Randomly evaluate eight (8) drivers and/or attendants perform this function each month.
  • Review and evaluate all passenger pickup and drop off locations for legal compliance. Randomly evaluate eight (8) drivers perform this function each month.
  • Provide support to first responder during accident investigations when needed.
  • DOE/DOT compliance in addition to company policies and procedures compliance.
  • Conduct re-training when requested and review performance evaluation with Supervisor.
  • Provide classroom and field instruction.
  • Complete forms for instruction, review and evaluation of driver and attendant performance.
  • Conduct training and educational activities for transportation including defensive driving, efficient and safer student transportation methods and bus evacuation and others as required by law.
  • Review transportation safety concerns; communicate with management staff regarding vehicle and equipment safety for school bus operations.
  • Audit of Route Times (scheduled versus actual)
  • Audit of Timecards, including verification of scheduled route time versus timecards
  • Audit of Run Books / Route Sheets; accuracy of scheduled route in routing system versus day-to-day follow-up
  • Follow-up on customer concerns as directed
  • Supervisor Responsibilities: Directly supervises employees in Kent ISD Special Education Transportation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work: appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, resolving problems and training.Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificates:
  • Current driver's license with credentials to operate a school bus
  • CDL with P/S endorsements and no air brake restriction
  • Pathfinders Bloodborne Pathogens and Universal Precautions
  • CPR, First Aid, Operation Lifesaver
  • Current Certification for Beginning Bus School and/or Continuing Bus Driver Training per State of Michigan guidelines and curriculum
  • CPI Training / Behavior Management
  • Safe driving history including operating commercial motor vehicles
  • Must be able to pass the FBI Background check
  • Train the Trainer Certification (Preferred)
  • Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or Technical School; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. No physical restrictions that would prevent acting in accordance with this job description.
