Job Title: Cardiac Sonographer Profession: Radiology / Cardiology Specialty: Echo Tech / Cardiac Sonographer Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8-hour (07:00 - 16:30) Experience: Minimum of one-year cardiac experience required License: Registered in echocardiography (RCS or RDCS) Certifications: BLS certified through American Heart Association Must-Have: Not specified Description: The Cardiac Sonographer independently performs professional-level assessments and a variety of non-invasive studies using ultrasound and related diagnostic technology. They record the results and clinical preliminary impressions as indicated. These exam results direct the course of patient care. The sonographer utilizes cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures to evaluate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic disease processes. They assist with transthoracic echo, transesophageal, and stress testing including dobutamine, treadmill exercise stress echo, and carotid duplex. The sonographer communicates preliminary impressions of examination results to reading and supervising physicians. All examinations are performed within standard protocols on adults and geriatric patients, with occasional examinations on adolescents and pediatric age groups. Examinations are conducted using both stationary and portable equipment. The sonographer serves as a clinical instructor for a School of Ultrasound and participates in the instruction of fellows, residents, and visiting physicians. They may also participate in clinical research and act as a clinical resource to staff within their facility and throughout the system. A traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles from the assigned primary work site location. Travelers are the first to float and may have shifts scheduled in multiple units based on staffing needs. Shifts will be reassigned to another unit if the primary unit no longer needs staffing during the traveler's assignment. Minimum Requirements: Successful completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) approved ultrasound program, Associate's Degree in Biological Sciences, Radiology, Ultrasound, or a relevant health sciences field.
