Job Summary:-Nurse Manager Emergency Department assumes 24-hour responsibility for overall assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.-Nurse Manager Emergency Department responsibilities include oversight and direction for the emergency department, and accountability for planning, directing, leading and evaluating nursing care within the department.-Foster an environment of collaboration and respect with all other healthcare team members.-Weekend and holiday coverage as needed is also a responsibility of the role as Nurse Manager.-Performs related duties as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Operational Performance-Develops long-term unit staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs.-Develops measures and monitors unit operational performance metrics inclusive, agency and overtime costs, vacancy and turnover rates.-Oversees the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training and development of employees within the department.-Responsible for the ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to the emergency department. -Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all ED and trauma patients.-Approach others in a tactful manner and treat others with respect and consideration.-Support and interpret policies, procedures, and objectives of the hospital.-Monitors customer satisfaction scores and implements plans to improve scores.-Monitors patient volume, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement.-Maintains a departmental dashboard that includes information and progress on people, service, quality, and leadership-Responsible for investigating patient, physician and staff complaints/concerns and works to resolve the aforementioned.-Maintains required competencies for self and all employees within the department.-Participates in a professional organization. Clinical Practice/Patient Care -Collaborates with the CNO/SVP of nursing to establish nursing care standards and evaluates staff compliance. -Identifies protocols affecting the patient population served and keeps nursing staff informed.-Demonstrates self-development and keeps currents on a variety of clinical management and health care topics.-Maintains a safe and caring environment for patients, family and staff that is conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance; and develops mechanism to assess same. -Ensures equal access to treatment for all persons in need regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, or sexual orientation. Management -Participates in the overall planning process for the service. -Conducts monthly meetings with the staff to address equipment, scheduling, goals, and objectives, performance metrics and improvement activities, and any staff concerns.Human Resource Development/Management -Educates and evaluates staff.-Works with nursing leadership/Human Resources to counsel, discipline and terminate staff as needed. -Educates staff in new and existing department procedures and systems (eg. Information systems, etc.)-Creates and maintains an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff and colleagues.
