Job Title: CVICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with cardiovascular patient population Description: Unit has 18 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1. Common diagnoses and types of patients include open heart, complex thoracic, and vascular cases. Patients are stabilized and supported by advanced equipment like impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO. Experience with common and advanced cardiac surgeries is needed. Responsibilities include managing lytic cases, carotids, TCARS, Fempop, and EVARs/Endo AAAs. RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics. A charge nurse is present on each shift and does not take an assignment. There are no nurse aides or patient care techs on this unit. The hospital has both a hospitalist and an intensivist available 24/7. RNs must handle all RT equipment such as vents, Cpap, BiPap, and High Flow. There are no telemetry/monitor techs; RNs need to read and interpret their own strips. Work shifts are scheduled from 0630 to 1830 or 1830 to 0630. Weekends and holidays are required every other as needed. Floating is required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU. The dress code is navy blue scrubs. The position includes 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation. The charting system used is Epic. This position is in a Level 1 trauma acute care setting.
