You will work in a fast-paced environment with a patient load of approximately 200 per day. The unit has 52 beds and four trauma bays, as well as six fast track beds. Quick-look triage areas utilize ESI for assessments. There are no seclusion rooms, but security is housed in the ER 24/7. Expected nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 for medical cases and 1:6 for fast track areas. Common diagnoses include a wide range of emergency needs. The department is equipped with dedicated CT and X-ray facilities. RNs may need to accompany critical patients during transports. Experienced ED techs and PCAs assist with EKGs, vitals, blood draws, and splints. ICU gtts are managed with support from ICU staff when necessary. A varied shift schedule includes start times at several designated hours. Weekend requirements include four weekend shifts per four-week period. Expect holiday commitments for two out of five. Navy blue scrubs are required. Orientations include one day of clinical and system training followed by one day on the floor. The charting system used is EPIC. Floating may occur to a nearby location, mostly pre-scheduled and infrequently at the last minute.
