Job Title: Registered Nurse Job Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:00) Guaranteed Hours: Information not provided Experience: 1-year experience in ICU required; First-timers welcome License: Pending MI license OK, must have a validMichigan RN License Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Certification Must-Have: - Availability for the entire week of orientation - Completion of modules during orientation and annually - Availability to work every other weekend - Compliance with flu vaccination policy (Medical Exemptions Only) Job Description: - Provide care for patients with mixed ICU and PCU needs. - Adjust patient care ratios based on acuity: - Ventilated patients (2:1) - High acuity, cooling, or CRRT (1:1) - Mixed ICU/PCU patients (3:1) - PCU and other stable patients (4:1) - Float to other ICU and Med-Surg units as needed. - Manage patient diagnoses, including COPD, Encephalopathy, Drug Overdose, DKA, AKI, Respiratory Failure, Cardiac Arrest, HF, and A-fib. - Perform special procedures such as CRRT, HD, A-line, CVC, Trach, and chest tube placement. - Operate special equipment like cooling machines, Bair Huggers, and manage massive transfusions. - Demonstrate required skills in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, endocrine/metabolic protocols, gastrointestinal and renal management, and advanced IV therapy. - Administer medications, including continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips. - Collaborate in neurological management with CVA/acute stroke care. - Assist with respiratory/thoracic management, including care for ventilated patients and operation of BiPAP, CPAP, and HFNC. - Interpret ABGs and perform suctioning of ETT, NT as required. Additional Notes: - Vaccine for COVID-19 is not required. - Nurse-to-patient ratios in Med-Surg areas typically include approximately 5-6 patients per RN. - Non-billable orientation lasting 8 hours is required.
