Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU (Nights)Job Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)Job Duration: 66 weeksShift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (every other weekend)Guaranteed Hours: [Not specified]Experience: Minimum years of experience not specifiedLicense: Current Registered Nurse LicensureCertifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)Must-Have: Completion of Nurse Residency Program for RNs with less than 1 year of experienceJob Description:- Provide direct and indirect patient care in a healthcare setting.- Communicate effectively with all team members about changes in a patient's clinical condition and updates in care.- Report results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology as needed.- Quickly and accurately respond to changes in a patient's condition.- Perform general nursing duties across all assigned departments with adequate supervision.- Conduct head-to-toe assessments and reassessments of all patients as per policy, including pediatric, geriatric, and general patient populations.- Adequately assess and reassess pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques, and educate patients and families accordingly.- Revise the plan of care based on the patient's response to treatment and evaluate effectiveness daily and as needed.- Perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory's and patient care unit policies and procedures.- Interpret results of waived tests and take appropriate action.- Consider care responsibilities specific to the patient's age and standard care practices.- Administer medications correctly, adhering to the six medication rights, to reduce the potential for errors.- Formulate and evaluate teaching plans based on identified learning needs, involving family as appropriate.- Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills at the level of licensure.- Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.- Function as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.- Interact professionally with patients and family, involving them in the formation of the care plan.- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population.- Interpret data about the patient's status to identify specific needs and provide necessary care.- Maintain a patient care environment that optimizes safety and reduces medical/healthcare errors.- Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.- Consult with other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.- Communicate appropriately and clearly with the Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, co-workers, and physicians.- Maintain good working relationships within and between departments.- Address psychosocial needs of patients and communicate with Social Services/Discharge Planner regarding in-hospital and post-discharge needs.- Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies.- Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.- Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stressful situations.- In an ambulatory clinic, set up and assist surgeons with minor office procedures, maintain clinical competencies, manage patient communication and records, and obtain medical prior authorizations when needed.
