Job Title: Registered Nurse Job Specialty: Labor & Delivery Job Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift, 4x12-Hour (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: Community Hospital Experience, Trauma Level 1 Experience License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, NRP, Epic experience Must-Have: Previous charge experience preferred, not accepting first-timers Job Description: - Must be an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse capable of working postpartum and in the nursery - Work in a small unit that conducts approximately 350 deliveries per year - Nurses are cross-trained to all areas of Obstetrics; floating is required - Work every other weekend - Day ratio: 1:3; Night ratio: 1:2; Weekend ratio: 1:6 Required Skills and Experience: - Work settings include Antepartum, Facility births/month, Labor and Delivery, High-Risk Antepartum, Level I Nursery, LDRP, Mother/Baby - Antepartum Care and Procedures including assisting with sterile speculum exams, performing NST, assessing reflexes/edema/clonus, performing sterile vaginal exams, triaging obstetrical patients, using EFM - Fetal Monitoring: Use external and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement and calibration, recognize and treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns - Medication & Administration: Administer anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, antihypertensives, Magnesium Sulfate therapy, Pitocin, Prostaglandins, and Terbutaline - Labor and Delivery Management: Perform amnioinfusion, assist with high-risk deliveries and vaginal deliveries, handle forceps/vacuum extraction, manage hemorrhage/shock, conduct sterile vaginal exams - Newborn Care: Assist with circumcision and post-op assessment, provide car seat education, perform cord care, conduct discharge teaching, ensure infant identification, perform metabolic screen, manage Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, conduct newborn assessments including hypoglycemia and phototherapy, teach circumcision care, ensure thermoregulation Additional Information: - Candidates cannot work concurrent travel assignments and per diem contracts - Required to submit a supervisory reference - Floating may be requested based on facility needs - Previous permanent employees must be away for at least six months before being hired for travel positions - Keep requests for time off to a minimum, no more than seven days total during the assignment Orientation: 16 hours (Non-Billable)
