Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Central Registry - Float Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 3:00 AM - 3:00 PM Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year Med Surg hospital experience required, 2 years preferred License: IN State or compact RN license Certifications: BLS Must-Have: BLS, IN State or compact RN license, Med Surg hospital experience Description: This position involves working in general medical and surgical units. We see a diverse population of patients with varying diagnoses including chronic illnesses such as COPD, diabetes, CHF, and end-stage renal disease. We manage GI issues like pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, and inflammatory bowel diseases. Infections such as pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, and c-diff are also treated. Patients with neurological issues such as stroke, dementia, and traumatic brain injuries are cared for. Mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are part of the patient profile. Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries. General medical surgical nursing care is provided. Skills and tasks required include assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, usage of electronic health records, IV pumps, wound vacs, and feeding pumps. Equipment used includes Epic electronic record, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads, and telemetry monitoring. The role requires floating to areas in greatest need within medical units. Patient ratios are 1:5. The dress code requires Caribbean Blue scrubs. Supplemental staff will undergo orientation including 1 day of general hospital orientation and approximately 5 days of nursing orientation, with Epic classes included.
