Job Title: Pediatric PICC Line Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Pediatric Vascular Access Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum 1 Year Experience Required License: Current RN License Certifications: Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support Must-Have: Experience in PICC Line Placement Description: Under general supervision, provides PICC Line Placement and Infusion education in the PICC program. Consults on special patient cases where a need for PICC Line placement and instruction has been identified. Establishes a treatment plan for patients and their families to follow. Serves as a resource person for medical and hospital staff regarding PICC placement and education. Consults with healthcare team on complication management. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician order on assigned patients. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Interacts with family and patient regarding care plan while in the hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patient and family of hospital procedures. Makes referral regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Must have current knowledge of nursing role in PICC Line placement. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Some computer skills are required. Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program is required. Successful completion of Vascular Access Device Selection, Insertion, and Management course within six months of hire is required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
