Registered Nurse First Assistants treat patients in surgery, and they operate as a first assistant to the doctor performing the operation. Responsibilities for First Assist RN (including but not limited to):1. An RNFA works to achieve optimal outcomes for the patient by collaborating with the surgeon and members of the healthcare team. Duties include the use of medical devices and instruments, providing exposure to the surgical site, and the handling or cutting of tissues. 2. Registered nurse first assistant can provide hemostasis, suturing, and wound management. 3. RNFA practices under the direct guidance of the surgeon and does not have a concurrent scrub person function.Requirements for First Assist RN:1. Active RN License2. Employers as perioperative nurse for at least 2 years3. Apply for CCI's CNOR (certified nurse operating room) designation4. Must work as RNFA for a minimum of 2,000 hours, along with meeting other requirements before being certified
