Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician Job Specialty: - Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable 8-hour day shift (0730-1600, 1000-1830, 1400-2030), 5x8 Hr Guaranteed Hours: 40.00 hours per week Experience: 6 months of experience preferred License: - Certifications: CRCST / CSPDT Required Must-Have: Computer skills, English proficiency (speak, read, write) Job Description: - Promote improved quality and patient safety in the operating room by ensuring efficient flow in the Sterile Processing department. - Perform routine tasks relating to the decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies. - Responsible for the operation and monitoring of sterilization equipment, maintaining compliance with relevant standards such as AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA. - Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the importance of patient safety in the operating room. - Prepare staff to pass survey and regulatory assessments. - Sterilize supplies and instruments using prescribed methods, including steam and gas plasma (Sterrad). - Operate washer/decontaminator following department policy and procedure. - Understand basic principles of all sterilization equipment used. - Ensure items for sterilization are properly packaged to promote successful sterilization following manufacturer's recommendations (IFU's). - Ensure cleanliness of decontamination, sterilization, and equipment areas. - Validate the proper functioning of all equipment using mechanical and biological monitors. - Ensure sterilized supplies and instruments are correctly labeled and stored, maintaining compliance with regulatory guidelines. - Uphold all quality, infection prevention, regulatory, and Joint Commission Standards. - Demonstrate technical skills to establish and maintain High-Level Disinfection (HLD) processes. - Utilize features of computerized tray/instrument tracking systems if applicable. - Apply knowledge of dress code related to Standard Precautions and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). - Report any life safety issues, environmental concerns, or process deviations to the immediate supervisor. - Maintain a customer-friendly rapport with peers and internal/external customers. - Provide on-call coverage outside standard scheduled hours as per department policy. - Document work activity as prescribed by department policy. - Assist in the transportation of sterilized instrumentation to the operating rooms as needed. - Verify required instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for next-day, call, or weekend cases. - Assist in removing soiled case carts or unsterile instrumentation from the operating room department. - Respond to problem calls from Surgery during regular business hours. - May be required to float to other locations within sixty miles or to identified float zones, including duties outside of the original job requirements in accordance with policy.
