BEHAVIOR TECHNICIANRESPONSIBLE TO: Behavioral Services Coordinator/DesigneeFUNCTION: Modifies individuals' behaviors through cognitive and behavioral programming techniques to ensure a productive lifestyle. Serves as a member of the clinical team member by preparing and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings to exchange recommendations for improving individuals' quality of life. Provides behavioral guidance and support to direct care professionals through modeling and hands on training.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:The ability to develop and implement training curricula for adult learners. An understanding of developmental disabilities, as well as, knowledge of or the ability to learn residential services for the developmentally disabled. Effective communication skills necessary to work with program participants, families and agency personnel. Must be detail oriented and possess excellent organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels. Knowledge of or ability to learn agency programs. Ability to complete all necessary paperwork and reporting in a timely manner. Flexibility, reliability and the ability to work non-traditional hours as needed or assigned to meet program/participants needs. Ability and willingness to travel for work is essential. Knowledge of computer programs including but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Power Point. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability and willingness to work a schedule that is based upon the needs of the program and individuals served - typical hours would be 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. May require some weekend hours to ensure all staff receive necessary support and training. Required to visit each facility on assigned caseload on no less than a weekly basis.A valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, as established by the agency insurance carrier, required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Behavior Technician: Bachelor's degree and at least one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and experience with working with individuals with challenging behaviors preferred; ORAssociates Degree and 2 years' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and Experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors preferred; ORHigh School Diploma and 5 years' experience working with individuals with developmental Disabilities and Experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors preferred.SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  • Assists in development of behavior plans based upon individual needs by reviewing progress, communicating with consumers and staff, attending meetings, and receiving feedback.
  • Conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments and reports recommendations to the team for discussion and possible Behavior Plan development.
  • Monitors staff during implementation of behavior plans and provides training when necessary. Provides staff with a consistent approach in utilizing procedures to address behavioral needs, as well as, observing regular behavior plan implementation to ensure quality programming is provided at all times.
  • Utilizes Therap as a tool to monitor and review behavioral situations and physical interventions in order to provide thorough oversight. This includes reviewing behavioral T-logs (and other documentation, as necessary) for individuals on caseload assigned to identify possible staff training issues or other means of behavioral support.
  • Gathers and synthesizes quantitative and anecdotal data to communicate psychiatric needs of people on caseload to their respective Psychologist.
  • Develops and provides general and individual specific training for program and agency staff by reviewing behavior plan , goal planning, and crisis intervention techniques to ensure staff are knowledgeable and able to fulfill consumer's needs.
  • Attends ISP Meetings and presents individual progress in concrete, measurable terms to the team. Accepts feedback and recommendations to team regarding an individual's behavior. During ISP, discusses possible changes or additions to the behavior plan.
  • Serves as a member of interdisciplinary team by attending meetings, offering recommendations and solutions to concerns, and to share and exchange information regarding individual's behavioral status.
  • Gains knowledge and adheres to all applicable regulations by attending workshops, utilizing feedback, and reviewing manuals to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).
