TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES (SSS) ACADEMIC ADVISOR

CATEGORY/LEVEL: PSS/8, *This is a grant-funded position, up for renewal on a 5-year cycle.

BASIC FUNCTION: Assess the financial, academic, and personal development needs of participants of the TRIO Student Support Services Project. Assist participants in developing plans to set and carry out goals and provide them with the support services necessary to ensure their success. Provide instruction that enriches participants' personal and educational experiences.

START DATE: ASAP

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Starting salary of $44,600 to $54,700 based on qualifications and experience. Benefits package includes Blue Cross/Blue Shield major medical health insurance; eye care, dental, life and disability insurance; paid vacation and sick leave; a choice of IPERS or TIAA retirement plans, and a variety of additional optional benefits.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in education, human services, psychology or related area. Minimum of two years of experience working with the academic and developmental needs of students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in counseling, student affairs, education, or related field. Teaching experience as well as work with diverse populations of college students, in addition to work or lived experience in at least one qualifying category for SSS.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

* Serve as communications, marketing, and promotional material expert for the TRIO SSS Program.

* Design appropriate curriculum and provide workshop instruction and evaluation.

* Assist in the annual evaluation and revision of curriculum design for SSS courses.

* Coordinate the administration of comprehensive financial, academic, and personal development assessments to SSS participants.

* Assist SSS participants in interpreting assessment data and developing Individual Progress Plans.

* Evaluate the success of the individual participants and provide intervention when necessary.

* Maintain detailed student records in compliance with federal mandates.

* Provide financial literacy to students as individuals, small groups, or classrooms to include budgeting, financial aid, appropriate use of credit, transfer planning, etc.

* Co-advise the TRIO and Friends Club.

* Coordinate, promote, and possibly transport SSS students to cultural events and transfer visit days.

* Advise and recruit TRIO SSS participants, maintaining communication and relationships through program completion.

* Guide SSS students and advising load throughout career and pathway exploration to devise well-informed academic and career plans that align with students' interests and strengths.

* Implement advising strategies that serve the SSS goals and track student learning outcomes and achievements.

* Participate and support all key departmental operations including program enrollment records, transfer reports, proper file documentation, departmental meetings, strategic planning, and program assessment.

* Seek professional growth through participation in appropriate organizations and conferences.

Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
