The operation of heavy truck maneuvering such as but not limited to; backing, loading, unloading, dumping, spread dumping and towing etc. Abilities: Comprehend and carry out simple verbal instructions and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's and perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance. Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with laborers, maintenance technicians, heavy equipment operators, and department supervisors to construct and repair City buildings on time and within cost. External: Occasional interaction with the general public, customers, and public officials. Essential FunctionsThe following functions are typical for this position. - To load, transport and unload construction materials, supplies and equipment to and from job sites in conformance with established procedures and protocols under the direction of the Division Supervisor.
- Operates 5, 6, 10, and 12-yard dump trucks to transport sand, gravel or construction materials to and from the work site.
- Transports equipment and loads and unload trucks by hand or with the use of mechanical equipment.
- Operates tanker trucks to assist in the grading of unimproved roads.
- Performs minor routine or preventative maintenance and repair on assigned vehicles.
- Operates other small equipment and vehicles and performs manual labor as necessary.
- Assists in clearing streets and roads during inclement weather or as needed.
- Performs traffic control and other related duties as assigned.
