Description
Position Summary:
Provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation to children and adults through proven instructional techniques with an emphasis on character development and safety.
Qualifications:
1. Certifications: CPR and AED.
2. Must be able to demonstrate or explain skills in accordance with YMCA & USAG standards.
3. Be up to date in your field by attending all trainings and meetings available to you.
4. Physical requirements include: ability to see 20/20 with corrective lenses, Speak clearly, speak loudly, speak fluent English, bend / stoop / twist / push / pull / climb / balance / walk, lift over 25 lbs, and demonstrate patients and understanding. Have the ability to lift and rearrange equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
5. Have the ability to instruct and observe participants, to communicate rules, progressions, skills, and expectations ages 18months & up in proper skills and progressions put forth by USA Gymnastics.
6. Have at least 3 months of assistant experience before moving to a head instructor role.
Essential Functions:
2. Know & uphold the YMCA Instructor code of ethics.
3. Develop positive relationships with members & participants and provide motivational support & guidance.
4. Dress in a YMCA staff shirt and pants or shorts that do not contain print on the rear area. Tennis shoes, socks or bare feet may be worn. Dress may not include spaghetti straps, pajamas, flip flops, belly baring shirts, extremely short shorts, ill fitting shorts or pants that may fall down to show your underclothing.
5. Use provided Lesson plans to set up and prepare for your class, run your class in a timely manner and offer equal opportunity to students.
6. Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
7. Know and follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
8. Work your regularly scheduled hours with not more than 2 substitutions in a 7 week session and not more than 1 substitution in a 5 week session. Request days off prior to the start of the session, or contact your own sub.
9. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
10. Remain alert at all times, preventing accidents before they happen and enforcing rules at all times.
11. Never turn your back to your class; always position yourself so you can see all of your students. Never allow a student to stray from your class without knowing where they are going. If your student is going to see a parent you must first be sure the parent is available.
12. Arrive 10 minutes before your lesson is to start and get out/set up your supplies you will need for class and plan your activities.
13. Clean up any supplies your class used when class is finished. Report any broken equipment to Program Director.
14. Review and be current on the YMCA session program guide. Have a good knowledge of the Tumbling & Trampoline program so that you can represent the program appropriately in the Y and the community.
