Job Category: Education Job Description Overview: The Adjunct Forklift Instructor will provide instruction over the OSHA safety guidelines and proper use of operating a forklift in an industrial workplace. They must report and maintain documentation of students' progress, attendance, and performance. Perform other duties that are assigned. The Instructor may be required to work with industry to create a customized forklift curriculum that fits their needs and schedule. Must be certified and have a strong background in operating a forklift in a workplace environment. The Instructor must have a strong passion for teaching, supporting, and preparing students to reach their educational goals. If training is successfully completed, students will receive a 2-year certification. Job Description Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of content.
- Provide a hands-on learning environment.
- Instruct students on all (OSHA) safety measures that are required while operating a forklift.
- Performs other duties that are assigned.
- May be required to work with industry to create a customized forklift curriculum that fits their needs and schedule.
- Demonstrate to students how to safely and properly use a forklift.
- Be sure to always supervise all hands-on activities.
- Educate students on forklift design, controls and instrumentation, function, stability, balance, capacity, triangle, steering, and visibility requirements.
- Educate students on pre-use inspections.
- In the refresher course, the instructor must go over with students the precertification checklist, parts of a truck inspection, and fuel source.
- Students must complete and pass a written and skills test to be recertified.
- Instruct students on preventative maintenance.
- Educate students on pedestrian awareness.
- Provides an engaging, supportive, and positive learning environment.
- Clearly establishes expectations for learning and achievement.
- Communicates well with students and staff.
- Make sure safety measures are always used, and the learning environment is safe for all students and staff.
- Plan, develop, teach, and facilitate classes that involve theoretical and hands-on learning where students can gain the knowledge that is needed in operating a forklift.
- Assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, maintain student progress, performance and records.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support program goals and student success.
- Keep track of students attendance, participation, progress and grades.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Forklift Operator Certification.
- Strong background in operating a forklift in a workplace environment.
- Great communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements.
- Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, cooperative, and dependable.
- Must be able to work evenings if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching/training experience in operating a forklift.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to operate a forklift.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Able to lift moderate weights of materials, equipment, and supplies.
